United Together
We have partnered together with United Way British Columbia in an effort to end period poverty. What, you may ask, is period poverty? Half of everyone who menstruates in BC have struggled to buy feminine hygiene products at some point in their lives and more than a quarter have gone through periods without having any at all. Single parents have had to choose between buying tampons or food for their family, and families skip out on social events like going to the library or the pool because it is easier to stay at home than risk bleeding in public. Teens miss school and parents miss work, and it isn't easy to ask for help. At The Salvation Army our four pillars are hope, service, dignity and stewardship, and partnering with United Way BC in their Period Promise aligns with all four. In serving those in need in our community (by providing access to the donations we receive from United Way BC) we provide hope for an easier tomorrow and dignity - being able to easily ask for something they need in a safe environment. And because we haven't spent any money on these products, we are able to help even more people with other vital services as well (like food insecurity). A big shout out and thank you to the United Way BC Kamloops team for always thinking of ways to support what we do here in Kamloops! Together we are united!

Every Journey Begins with One Brave Step
Through Pathway of Hope, families are supported to identify their strengths, set meaningful goals, and move toward lasting stability at their own pace. At its core, hope is not just an idea, it’s the process of walking alongside individuals, mapping out possibilities together, building a network of support, and looking ahead with renewed confidence. Every step forward matters. Every story deserves dignity. Behind every story of hope is a team that listens, plans and walks alongside families every step of the way. Since stepping into my role with the Pathway of Hope program in Kamloops in September 2025, the experience has been both inspiring and rewarding. Over the past months, we have worked closely with individuals and families, supporting them as they take intentional steps towards stability, self-sufficiency, and personal growth. The Pathway of Hope program is designed to empower participants to identify and pursue goals that matter most to them. Through consistent support, encouragement, and access to essential community resources, participants are able to navigate challenges and build stronger connections for their future. So far we have witnessed encouraging progress. Several participants have successfully achieved key milestones, thereby improved their overall wellbeing and moving closer to their long-term stability. One particularly impactful moment for me is the recent graduation of a participant who completed the program. During her exit reflection meeting, she expressed deep gratitude for the support she received. Beyond accomplishing her personal goals, she shared that her sense of hope had been renewed and her faith strengthened through her journey in the program. Her words served as a powerful reminder that the impact of Pathway of Hope extends far beyond measurable outcomes. It reaches into the emotional and spiritual well-being of those we serve. Stories like hers capture the true essence of the program, walking alongside individuals as they rediscover their strength, rebuild confidence, and begin to envision a better secured future for themselves. Because with continued guidance and encouragement, meaningful and lasting change is possible. As we continue this journey, our commitment remains the same, to support every participant with compassion, respect, and dedication through a Christ centered care. We celebrate each progressive step, no matter how small, and remain committed to providing the tools and support necessary for long-term success. The progress made so far is only the beginning. With continued collaboration and shared purpose, Pathway of Hope will keep transforming lives; one goal, one story, and one step at a time.
